Oh man, Disney is repeating history by destroying Alice in Wonderland once again! This has me rolling my eyes and it surely must be making Charles Dodgson aka Lewis Carroll role in his grave. In this age of remakes I knew that it would only be a matter of time before Tim Burton attempted to take this on. It's to my sorrow that he'll be working for Disney.
The best version of the epic was done by the real puppet master himself, Jim Henson in "Dream Child," an 80s film about the fictional much older original Alice having flash backs of Wonderland and Lewis Carroll.
Disney's original slight against Wonderland was in the now classic cartoon musical. In it both meaning and authentic plot were axed. But at least the Alice in it was not nineteen.
The ever essence of Alice is a young girl. To stretch that fact would be like altering the mad hatter's age to too young or too old. Alice's age is NOT a mystery in history. In fact, the fictional Alice was based on a real life girl, Liddell. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/8...
She does not appear like the gaunt faced late teen ready for her close up. So much of the true story radiates the world and dreams of a Victorian Age young girl. Few stories in all of literature are able to express the curiosity and courage of the youth in us, down the rabbit hole or to the second star on the left like Alice in Wonderland. To omit young Alice, by putting a grown woman into a fluffed sleeved blue dress with white tights (a style only worn by 9-12 year old girls) you might as well change Peter Pan with the lost men instead of the lost boys or Tiny Tim as big Tim.
I for one will not watch this upcoming new Alice. When a woman her age goes down a rabbit hole and meets a Cheshier Cat it should only mean she is on acid.
