‘Alice in Wonderland’ Takes #1 with $116.3 Million

‘Alice in Wonderland’ has set a new record for March opening weekends by bringing in an estimated $116.3 million.

Furthermore, ‘Alice in Wonderland’ set a new record for IMAX opening weekends.  IMAX which pulled ‘Avatar’ from all their screens in order to show ‘Alice’ brought in $11.9 million on its 188 screens this weekend.

‘Brooklyn’s Finest’ this weekends other new release came in at a very distant second place with $13.5 million.  Last weekends top spot ‘Shutter Island’ ranked #3 with $13.3 million, Kevin Smith’s ‘Cop Out’ at #4 with 9.1 million, and ‘Avatar’ rounds out the top 5 with $7.7 million.

Will ‘Alice’ keep the top spot or will RPatz be able to prove his star power without playing a vampire?
