After several weeks of below average box office weekend, Disney/Pixar came to the rescue.
‘Toy Story 3′ the much anticipated movie opened this weekend 11 years after ‘Toy Story 2′ opened in 1999 with a record breaking box office gross.
‘Toy Story 3′ has brought in an estimated $109 million dollars, making it the highest opening weekend for an animated movie. Topping the previous record made by ‘Shrek 2′ of $108.3 million.
This weekends other opener ‘Jonah Hex’, has been well hexed, the comic book western movie came in at 8th place with a blink and you miss it total of $5 million dollars. This makes it the summers 2nd lowest grossing opening weekend, ‘MacGruber’ grossed the lowest of $4 million when it opened back in May.
Last weeks number one ‘Karate Kid’ fell down to number two with $29 million, bringing its 2 week run to $106 million. ’The A-Team’ slipped to number 3 with $13.7 million for a grand total of $49.7 million, a far cry from its $110 million budget.
After its 3rd weekend in the release the awesomely funny ‘Get Him to the Greek’ came in at number four with $6.1 million, bringing to a total of $47 million. Falling to number five is ‘Shrek Forever After’ with $5.5 million.
Weekends Top Ten
Next week’s big opener is the Tom Cruise helmed ‘Knight & Day’, personally I think ‘Toy Story 3′ will be the hold over for next weekend.
