Back in June hundreds of fans flocked to the IZOD Center in New Jersey for the one of the biggest concerts of the summer, but this isn’t the Britney or Rihanna, its the cast of “Glee” embarking on their second national (and in this case international) tour. This was particular performance was special, as it was being tapped for the “Glee: The 3D Concert Movie”, which will bring the Glee Tour to thousands of Glee fans across the country who did not get a chance to see the show live.
This show is not just the cast – Cory Monteith, Lea Michele, Chris Colfer, Heather Morris, Amber Riley, Mark Salling, Ashely Fink, Cord Overstreet, Kevin McHale, Harry Shum Jr., Naya Rivera, Jenna Ushkowitz, Diana Agron, and Darren Criss – standing on the stage singing songs from the hit show. They are in full character, acting as the “New Directions” and “The Warblers” performing the hits songs that fans have come to love.
The show opens with the shows ‘theme’ song Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin” and it starts off by showing casing the groups core 6 members: Kurt, Finn, Rachel, Tina, Mercedes, and Artie; as the rest of the group joins in (similar format to the season one regionals performance). Viewers are than launched into show stopping performances from Lea/Rachel’s “Firework” and “Don’t Rain on My Parade”, Finn/Corey’s “Jesse’s Girl”, Brittany/Heather’s “I’ve A Slave 4 U” (also shows off Heather’s amazing dance skills), Artie/Kevin’s “Safety Dance”, and Chris/Kurt’s “I Wanna Hold Your Hand”.

The mega popular ‘Dalton Academy Warblers’ join in the with their 3 hits ‘Teenage Dream’, ‘Silly Love Songs’, and ‘Raise Your Glass’. The group also has amazing group numbers including “Empire State of Mind”, “Forget You” (with special guest Gwyneth Paltrow aka Holly Holiday), and “Loser Like Me”.In between songs, the movie follows 3 “Gleeks” (Trenton, Josey, and Janae) as they explain how Glee has changed their lives for the better. Setting the stage for The Warbler’s performance is the little kid known as “mini-warbler” or Kellan, who made a splash on YouTube with he copy-cat Warbler’s performance.
Even as I sat in the theater, surrounded by a great mix of people of all ages, gender, skin colors, and sexuality, all who were singing and dancing in there seats, I was reminded that Glee is about celebrating our inner geek or loser and spreading theme of “Love Yourself”, and nothing expresses that better than the casts cover of Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way”.

The “Glee: The 3D Concert Movie” hits theaters on August 12th for two weeks only, and we sure to stick around during the credits for a bonus performance of “Somebody to Love” (from the shows first season).
