Happy New Year movie goers. The first box office weekend of 2012 has come to close and Tom Cruise managed to stay on top.
Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol welcomed the new year by grossing $31.2 million which was enough to stay in its #1 spot. Robert Downey Jr. and company secured the #2 spot with Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows with $22 million. #3 belongs to Alvin, Simon and Theodore’s Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked with $18.2 million. War Horse moved up 3 spots to #4 with $16.9 million and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo rounds out the top 5 with $16.3 million.
