There was a somber tone to tonights 54th Annual Grammy Awards due to the sudden loss of Whitney Houston, but the show must go on and the night was all about Adele.

Adele (who has successfully recovered from vocal chord surgery) managed to sweep the awards and win ALL 6 of the awards she was nominated for including Best Pop Performance, Record of the Year, and Album of the Year.  Adele also performed for the first time since her surgery, bringing down the house with her now Grammy winning song “Rolling in the Deep”.

Other winners of the night include Lady Antebellum, who beat out Taylor Swift for the Best Country Album; don’t cry to much for Taylor though, she picked up 2 Grammys this evening during the pre-show announcement; Foo Fighters took home Best Rock Album; Chris Brown won for Best R&B Album and Bon Iver bested Nicki Minaj for Best New Artist.

Highlighted performances include show opening Bruce Springteen and the E Street Band, Nicki Minaj, Katy Perry, Chris Brown, Maroon 5 and Foster the People joined The Beach Boys for a special 50th Aniversary Performance, Taylor Swift, and Foo Fighters.  It was the last minute tribute to Whitney Houston (who passed away yesterday at the age of 48) performed by Jennifer Hudson that brought a tear to our eyes.  Hudson performed Whitney’s classic hit “I Will Always Love You” at the end of the “In Memoriam” section of the show.
