It is that time of year again, time for the 2012 MTV Movie Awards and this year MTV is shaking up the nomination process.
While the winner’s will still be chosen by the fans, the actual choosing who will get nominated will now be chosen by a panel of actors, producers, agents and other industry insiders. This nomination rebooting will allow smaller or non-fan driven movies a chance of winning the Golden Popcorn.
Along with the rebooting process comes the adding/removing of nomination categories. Don’t worry, Rob & Kristen will still most likely win “Best Kiss” as that category is a staple of the show along with “Best Fight”. A total of five categories are being removed Best Villain, Best Scared-as-Shit Performance, Best Jaw Dropping Moment, Biggest Badass Star, Best Line From a Movie. To replace the old comes five new categories that include Best Music, Best Onscreen Transformation, Best Gut-Wrenching Performance, Best Cast, and Best Onscreen Dirt Bag.
“The Movie Awards will be a re-imagined celebration of the most popular films and performances from the past year,” said Stephen Friedman, President of MTV. “This year, we’ve overhauled categories and added a Breakthrough Performance award that will be chosen by some of the best directors in the world. We’re also making music a more central experience to the overall show creative, and are thrilled to announce fun. – a band that has already imprinted a new anthem on a generation – as our first musical moment.”
It was also announced that chart-topping indie-pop group fun. will rock the stage at the “2012 MTV Movie Awards” with a performance toasting the greatest party films of all time.
