In the mist of scandals and the Olympics, Marvel Studios has managed to confirm what the majority of us were hoping for, that writer and director Joss Whedon will return to helm ‘Avengers 2′.
‘The Avengers’ is hands down the most successful film of 2012 grossing more than $616 million domestically and over $1.46 billion worldwide, making ‘The Avengers’ the third biggest movie of all time. Marvel Studios (now owned by Walt Disney Studios) confirms that Whedon has signed a exclusive film and TV deal through 2015 that will include both writing and directing the anticipated sequel.
Per Marvel Studios “Joss Whedon has signed an exclusive deal with Marvel Studios for film and television through the end of June 2015. As part of that deal, Whedon will write and direct Marvel’s The Avengers 2 as well as help develop a new live action series for Marvel Television at ABC. He will also contribute creatively to the next phase of Marvel’s cinematic universe.”
Whedon is most know for his hit shows ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ and ‘Angel’; the TV show turned cult film classic ‘Fire Fly’/'Serenity’; and the super popular web series ‘Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog’.
