There’s a fashion fever spreading this fall and I advise against vaccination.
Designers everywhere are experimenting with toe-caps and loafers!
When playing with toe-caps, it’s most important that it contrasts with the rest of the shoe, preferably in colour and texture. The boldest version of this trend is the high gloss metallic toe-cap, often contrasting with a softer and duller material (like suede or matte leather).
As for the loafers, well they’re coming out in flats and pumps alike. The loafer cut is a nice alternative to your everyday shoe, giving a sophisticated tone to your outfit. Vaneli’s Arlen Flat (#1 165$) is particularly endearing because it couples the contemporary leopard print onto a short-haired fabric with the elegance of a loafer cut.
Yves Saint Laurent does these two trends best with its Catherine High-Heel Pump (#2 $895) and Evelyn Slipper (#3 $675).
The pump plays an elegant twist on both trends by placing a curved vamp, reminiscent of the signature loafer extension, on top of the pump’s toe so that it curves up and over the flat of thefoot— kind of like a bunny hill. The Catherine Pump plays with the toe-cap trend by placing a gold toned plaque on top of the vamp, with the “YSL” signature in the upper left hand corner. The golden plaque contrasts nicely against the deep rich magenta suede of the shoe, but more demurely than the current high definition trend.
The ultimate trend gem however, is YSL’s Evelyn slipper in red (though for some reason red isn’t listed on it’s website). This flat is made out of a beautiful burnt red suede. It’s cut in an elegant and simple loafer style but YSL finishes it off with a high gloss golden cap! This shoe oozes glamour, sophistication, and has a subtle regal tone.
Unfortunately, we can’t all afford YSL (myself included!) but luckily many designers have followed the trend. Guess’ Myric Pump (#4 $99) features the high gloss golden toe-cap. My favourite version of this shoe has a golden sequin base with the complimentary high gloss golden toe-cap. ShoeDazzle is another alternative with its Sophia Flat (#5 $29.95), a cute loafer made out of different vibrant velvet colours, each featuring a metallic toe-cap. ShoeDazzle also features the Atusa Pump (#6 $39.95) which is a velvet high heel in the classic loafer cut.
Enjoy this Fall trend, happy shopping!

Not really a big fan of the toe cap look. Hope it doesn’t catch on! I do however like that ShoeDazzle flat… I have something a bit similar from this other shoe club, but it’s not quite as nice.
