First Look – BBC America’s New Drama Copper

First Look BBC America Copper

BBC America is breaking into the original drama field with new series ‘Copper‘, which is a gritty yet entertaining hour of television that is not to be missed.

We all know of BBC America as the place us State side go to catch up on our favorite British TV shows like ‘Doctor Who‘, but now the network is debuting their first original drama with ‘Copper’ about a 1860′s Irish detective in Five-Points Manhattan.

We’ve seen the first few episodes (we’ll have a full review/recap of the pilot after it airs on Sunday, August 19) and our first response is that ‘Copper‘ shows us a gritty time in post-Civil War America when Five-Points was the seedy under belly of New York City.

The series stars Tom Weston-Jones (MI-5) as Detective Kevin Corcoran, Franka Potente (The Bourne Supremacy, Run Lola Run) as Eva Heissen, Kyle Schmid (Being Human, The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants) as Robert Morehouse, Anastasia Griffith (Once Upon a Time, Damages)  Elizabeth Haverford, Ato Essandoh (Damages) as Doctor Matthew Freeman, Kevin Ryan (Tripping Tommy) as Detective Francis Maguire, Dylan Taylor (Covert Affairs) as Andrew O’Brien, Kiara Glasco (Angel Duty) as Annie Reilly, Tanya Fischer (The Defenders) as Molly Stuart, and Tessa Thompson (Heroes) as Sara Freeman.

You can see a sneak peek of ‘Copper‘ below and be sure to tune into the series premiere tonight at 10pm ET/9pm CT on BBC America.

One of my coworkers at Dish mentioned a show called Copper but I didn’t really pay any attention to it, but when I bored on my taxi ride home I decided to take a peek. I watched it at Dish Online and I can promise you this series is going to be epic. The actors are awesome, Fontana’s writing speaks for itself, and Corky shoots first and apparently asks questions never, which is exactly what I would expect of the time. I can’t wait for next week’s episode.
