Well movie lovers we are just 9 days away from closing out another year of great movies. 2012 might just go down in history as the best box office year on record with one movie crossing that all important $600 million threshold, two films crossed that $400 million finishing line, and the rest of the top 10 movies of the year have all grossed more than $200 million domestically*.
So just what are the top 10 movies of 2012? Well odds are you’ve seen at least 3 of them with Marvel’s The Avengers taking the #1 slot with $623.3 million in domestic gross. The #2 film is no surprise, The Dark Knight Rises – the final film in the Dark Knight Trilogy – capped off with $448.1 million. The odds were totally in Lionsgate favor with The Hunger Games, the super-popular book-to-movie adaptation grossed a little over $408 million making it the #3 film of the year. Speaking of Lionsgate, their purchase of Summit Entertainment turned out to be “a good thing” as the #4 film of the year is the final film in the Twilight franchise, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2; while the film is still in theaters as of publishing time the film has grossed more than $279 million domestically. Rounding out the top 5 is 007 himself – Bond, James Bond; Skyfall, which has garnered plenty of positive buzz from critics plus a killer theme song co-written and sung by Adele has brought in $275 million*.
