Star Trek Warp Speeds to #1

As the case goes every summer, another weekend, another blockbuster movie. This weekend saw the release of “Star Trek”, a reboot from mega producer J.J. Abrams.
Well, it didn’t disappoint in the box office department. Star Trek landed in number 1 with $72.5 million. Thats about $13 million short of what Wolverine did last weekend.
Wolverine landed in the #2 spot with $27 million, bringing its domestic total to $129,624,000.
Rounding out the top 3 is “Ghosts of Girlfriends Past” with around $10.4 million.
Top 10 at the Box Office:
1 Star Trek: $72,500,000
2 X-Men Origins: Wolverine: $27,000,000
3 Ghosts of Girlfriends Past: $10,450,000
4 Obsessed: $6,600,000
5 17 Again: $4,405,000
6 Next Day Air: $4,000,000
7 The Soloist: $3,605,000
8 Monsters Vs. Aliens: $3,379,000
9 Earth (2009): $2,488,000
10 Hannah Montana The Movie: $2,414,000
Next weekends big release is “Angles and Demons”
Star Treks Opening Day Total

The Star Trek reboot opened yesterday (May 8th) and produced some pretty good numbers. It’s opening day totals were $24 million, and if you add in the $7 million from the midnight screening, thats an impressive $31 million dollars.
Now that is still behind the $35 million Wolverine did last weekend, it is more in pare with Watchmen’s opening back in March.
Right now box office experts are predicting around $72 million for opening weekend.
DeadPool to Get Own Spin-off

Wasting no time, People.com is reporting that it looks like the next film in the X-Men Origins franchise could be that of Wade Wilson/Deadpool.
Ryan Reynolds who portrayed DeadPool in Wolverine is said to be in talks to once again wield those swords!!!
“Deadpool, actually mercenary Wade Wilson, will overcome the setback suffered in Wolverine and regain the ability to shoot off his mouth, according to the Hollywood Reporter. “
Here is my question…it looked as if DeadPool was beheaded in Wolverine, so how does one recover from being beheaded??? Will Wolverines healing powers allow them to just stick his head back on and all is good again or are wil going to be looking for some super strong duck tape????
Also, Wolverine is also getting a another film – this one with a samurai storyline. Maybe that explains the whole Japan ending????
Wolverine – My Thoughts

Okay, so as promised, here is what I thought of X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
Overall, I thought it was a pretty awesome movie. However, there were points in the movie where I thought the storyline dragged a little, and some of the dialogue was a little dry, but the action scenes almost made up for that.
Now, even though I know the main story was about Wolverine, I still wanted to see more of Deadpool and Gambit. I mean we got not even 10 minutes of Ryan Reynolds (I’m still not sure if that was him at the end of Deadpool). Everytime we were introduced to a new mutant, I wanted to see more of him/her. Also, there were quite a few “eye candy” shots of Hugh Jackman for us, always a good thing.
From the looks of what the movie brought in over the weekend ($87 million), the internet leak didn’t really have any effect of the movie what so ever.
Overall, a solid B+ movie!!!!
